exploring the surroundings

Known mainly as a surfing destination, the westernmost coast of Algarve is Portugal’s most beautiful window into the Atlantic Ocean and will enchant even the most adventurous souls.

  • surf

Blessed with numerous beaches facing different directions, there is always one suitable for you no matter what your surfing skills are. There are also plenty of surfing schools if you want to give it a try.

  • lighthouse sunset

The mystical Cabo de São Vicente is definitely worth a visit. Make sure to grab a couple of drinks and enjoy the landscape at sunset and scan the waters for whales and dolphins and the skies for seabirds.

  • Cordoama viewpoint

To end your day, make sure you don’t miss sunset here. You will see nothing but the sea surrounding you; just sit and let the peaceful nature embrace you.

  • meditate

Costa Vicentina is an idyllic location to connect with your inner self. Recharge your mind, body and soul. If you would like some guidance, you can easily find yoga studios in the region.

  • take a hike

Always by the sea, the Fishermen’s Trail follows the paths used by the locals to access the beaches and fishing grounds. It is a single walkable track along the cliffs.

  • just relax

The region is full of pristine beaches, some sheltered by the cliffs, and perfect for relaxing under the sun and enjoying yourself.

  • birdwatching

If you are around in October, migratory birdwatching is remarkable, and celebrated via an international event.

  • sea activities

Although Vila do Bispo is not generally known for sunrise, Porto da Baleeira is a popular spot and worth a visit at dawn. From there you can go out sailing, dolphin watching and even come across the fishes that you will soon find at the local restaurant.

  • eat local

Should you choose to eat in the neighborhood, ask the locals (we can be your local people!). Fresh fish is a must. If you choose to cook at home (one of our favourite sports), you have the perfect excuse to visit the local public market.

  • ride a bike

Vila do Bispo and Sagres have flat landscape with a wide network of biking paths. The new path connecting Vila do Bispo with Aljezur, through Sagres, is beautiful and by-the-sea over-the-cliffs.

  • move around

Vila do Bispo is central to both West and South coasts and located a short drive to all the best beaches and villages of the southern tip of Europe. Escape the “every day at the same beach and restaurant” routine and be sensitive to your own mood, curiosity, weather conditions and local tips. Define at breakfast your destination for the day and take advantage of your hub-like location.

  • explore the house

When you wake up in the morning and open the window (or Windguru) in Costa Vicentina, you immediately grasp what is the best spot for the specific weather condition you’re facing - which can vary throughout the day. The architecture of ‘ao sul’ houses brings this mindset into the domestic realm: to use the house as a territory to explore along the day(s).
